Youth Hockey—Now Taking Registrations!
Join us for a fun-filled winter while learning to skate and developing basic hockey skills. The program is divided into three levels: Learn to Skate, U6 and U8. “Learn to Skate” is for first time skaters regardless of age. U6 is for players born between 7/1/2010 and 6/30/2012 that already have basic skating skills. U8 is for players born between 7/1/2008 and 6/30/2010 that have basic skating skills.
A helmet is required for everyone on the ice. An entire bag of protective equipment is available for rent through the Owatonna Youth Hockey Association rental program for $50 per year. Skates can be leased at Straight River Sports for an entire season. Program supervisor: Tony Schwichtenberg

This non-competitive program focuses on developing social skills, sportsmanship, teamwork and motor skills in a safe environment. T-shirt included with fee.

1st & 2nd Grade Basketball - Squirts
Program focuses on developing basketball skills as well as sportsmanship and teamwork. T-shirt included fee.

3rd – 6th Grade Basketball
Separate boy’s and girl’s leagues are formed. Scrimmages and games emphasize learning and skill development. T-shirt included with fee.

Location: Practices are held at elementary schools; Games are held at Owatonna Middle School
First practice and meeting: November 8, 6:00-7:00pm, Girls at OHS and Boys at Owatonna Middle School

Volunteer Coaches Needed- Youth Basketball
Volunteer coaches play an important role in the youth sports experience. All volunteers must complete a background check each year.
· Coaches meeting for 3rd—6th grade Basketball: October 30
· Coaches meeting for Tikes/Squirt Basketball: December 3
· Classroom and on-court clinic with the OHS Boys and Girls Varsity staff for all basketball coaches: November 8, 7:15—8:15pm, Girls at OHS, Boys at Owatonna Middle School
Youth Scholarship Fund
This fund helps support programs for all youth in Steele County. Forms are available at the Park and Recreation Office. Participants pay 25% of program fees, any late fees, and must show verification of qualifications. Qualifications for Scholarship: Current recipients of Free or Reduced Lunch Program; Current recipients of SSI (Supplemental Security Income) or Social Security Benefits; Current recipients of Medical Assistance Program; Other circumstances (will need to explain)
